What is Telecommuting?
There are many people today, both men and women who are choosing to work from. Some may want to stay home with their kids. Others may just be tired of the "rat race" or the long commutes. Others may have disabilities which make working outside the home a real burden.
What is telecommuting?
Telecommuting can be a real answer for many people. Telecommuting simply means doing a job for an employer at home. Telecommuting can be a completely "at home" position or your time may be divided up between home and the office. If it is a completely at home job, you can work virtually for an employer across the country from you. It opens up the job market to outside your local area.
Why would an employer hire a telecommuter?
- They may not have the office space to hire additional workers
- They may have a specific project that needs to be done, but they do not have enough work to keep someone on permanently
- They may need specific skills for a project that they cannot find locally
What are the benefits to the telecommuter?
- Flexibility
- No more long commutes
- More time with family
- Save money on hiring babysitters/daycare
- Can have more variety in your work
- Can have exposure to a larger job market
As you are pursuing telecommuting opportunities, you want to be sure you are partnering with companies who have legitimate job openings. It may take you a lot of time trying to sift through all the postings out there and there is the potential to lose money in the process.
I recommend joining a website membership that has already researched the jobs they post. This will save you time and money. It is well worth the investment of a small membership fee to be assured you will find legitimate jobs.
As with anything in life, you are responsible for researching the jobs before you become involved. Ask questions. Make sure you know how you will be paid, the salary amount, what hours you will be needed, etc. Find out if this is an opportunity that will be a good fit for you and your situation.
